Jul 14, 2006 Kaiser Family Foundation "International Assistance for HIV/AIDS in the Developing World: Taking Stock of the G8, Other Donor Governments, and the European Commission," Kaiser Family Foundation: The foundation on Friday released a report that examines international funding for HIV/AIDS by the Group of Eight industrialized nations -- which provides the majority of donor assistance for HIV/AIDS through bilateral programs and Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria contributions -- and major donor governments. The report summarizes the most recent data on HIV/AIDS funding from the G8 and discusses various methods for assessing "fair share" among donors. Data for the report were collected through a collaborative effort among UNAIDS, the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. In addition, Jennifer Kates, Kaiser Family Foundation vice president and director of HIV Policy, co-authored a journal commentary titled "Global Health Funding: A Glass Half Full?" with J. Stephen Morrison and Eric Lief of CSIS, which appears in the July 15 edition of the journal Lancet and is available online at no cost. The article is an analysis of global health funding by donors over time and assesses trends from 2000 to 2004 compared with earlier periods and future needs. |
