MAC
Cosmetics hopes to raise $10 million for the MAC
AIDS Fund through the sale of its Viva Glam V products, the Wall
Street Journal reports. Through the sale of its Viva Glam lipstick
collection, the foundation in the past 10 years has raised more than $32
million for groups worldwide that provide direct care for HIV/AIDS patients
and groups aimed at prevention (Cheddar Berk, Wall Street Journal,
2/19). The fund recently announced that five celebrities -- pop singer
Christina Aguilera, rapper Missy Elliott, supermodel Linda Evangelista,
actress Chloe Sevigny and pop culture icon Boy George -- will serve as
spokespeople for Viva Glam V, the most recent addition to MAC's Viva Glam
product line, the AP/Miami
Herald reports (AP/Miami Herald, 2/13). Viva Glam V will
cost $13.50 for the "lipglass" gloss product and $14.00 for the lipstick,
according to a MAC AIDS Fund release.
The products will be available at MAC's 750 stores worldwide in March,
and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the MAC AIDS Fund (MAC AIDS Fund
release, 2/11). MAC President John Demsey said that the group of spokespeople
were chosen because they "represent the many faces of AIDS patients," according
to the AP/Herald. The spokespeople, who will appear in print advertisements
for the Viva Glam V products, said that they are hopeful for a cure in
the "near future so the MAC AIDS Fund could be disbanded and the lipsticks
retired," the AP/Herald reports. Elliott, whose cousin recently
died from AIDS-related complications, said, "None of us are immune" (AP/Miami
Herald, 2/13). |
