A 26-year-old woman was sentenced
to six months in a penal colony on Monday for donating blood knowing that
she was HIV-positive. The court in the town of Borovichy, Novogorod Oblast,
found the woman guilty of deliberately putting others at risk of contracting
the HIV infection.
According to law enforcement agencies
in Borovichy, the woman was caught after she gave blood at a donor’s centre
at the end of May. The woman explained her actions by saying she “really
needed the money”. Staff at the centre managed to identify the infected
blood before it was used. |
